About WIAAThe West Indian & African Association (WIAA) is a cultural organization at Hamilton College which represents issues affecting African and West Indian countries. All members of the College are welcome to weekly meetings held every Wednesday at 7pm in the Afro Latin Cultural Center. WIAA was formed in 1999 by Waltnel Sosa ('00), from Trinidad & Tobago. Waltnel is currently an Investment Banker at Credit Suisse. Each year the organization hosts speakers on various issues that have a bearing on the cultural, historical, political, social and economic issues affecting the Africa, Europe and the Carribean. On a social level, WIAA throws parties several times each semester, and during the spring semester, after the spring break, the organization holds the Carnival, a symbol of African and Carribean celebration, which is a day-long, fun-filled event giving a strong insight into African culture & heritage. The West Indian and African Association (WIAA) is dedicated to developing a close alliance among collegiate students in order to promote cultural, educational, and social improvement. In addition, WIAA strives to promote awareness of West Indian and African culture to the Hamilton College community. The main goal of The West Indian and African Association is not only to foster a sense of community among students of West Indian and African decent, but to also foster a sense of community with the entire Hamilton College student body.
