Saturday - February 1st 2014 - SPRING ROLL!
After the screening of "Last Train Home," Hace continued celebrating the Spring Festival with a Making Spring Rolls event today. We made Chun Bing, a Northern Chinese styled "spring roll" or "spring pancake" and Vietnamese fried spring rolls. To be honest, I always miss home the most during this time of the year (I'm an international student from Vietnam). The event really evoked some nostalgia in me. I was so glad being able to make and, of course, eat the food that I used to enjoy back home :) (the chun bing was delicious as well).
We want to thank all you guys for coming; you made the event successful.
As a student cultural organization, Hace celebrates the plurality of Asian cultures. So next time, if you miss home and/or home food, come to Hace and make a request (my request for the Vietnamese fried spring rolls was welcomed by all the members).
Happy New Year, everyone!

Friday - Jan. 24, 2014 - HACE is back ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
HACE is back on track this semester. We wrapped up the club fair today with a fresh new list of members. Also, our first event of the year, "Last Train Home" documentary screening*, will take place on January 30th (which is also Chinese (Lunar) New Year Eve!) at 6 PM in the Sadove Conference Room. The documentary details a couple's journey home for Chinese new year along with 130 million other migrant workers. The movie is bound to be good (seriously, its freshness is certified 100% on Rotten Tomatoes).
So, yeah, come join us.

Sunday - Dec. 8, 2013 - Moving Along
As the semester comes to a close, HACE is turning over a new leaf in its tree. It's been great! First of all, HACE would like to thank its Co-Presidents Sabrina Hua and Wenlu Weng: you brought us along so far. And to the rest of the E-board- Laura Becker, Adrienne Earhart, Jessica Tang, and Hoang Do- thanks for taking HACE to new lengths. And a special goodbye to those who will be away next semester- keep an eye on this website to continue to hear about HACE. But let's not only think about the fast- what about HACE's future?
HACE promises a new, eventful, interesting, and fun-filled semester come 2014! Let's give a warm welcome to the newly elected E-board members!
Who here likes dumplings? (Why everyone, of course!) That's why today we had dumplings! The HACE group got together at around 5:30 to start making dumplings, and may I say (with a full stomach as evidence) they were goo-ood! This will officially become a semester event. (THE semester event, I should think.) We washed, prepared, mixed, folded, cooked, boiled, fried (well, I say "we") the most delicious dumplings I have ever had on campus. Writing this on a full stomach of dumplings and fried rice, I'll admit I'm biased. But with reason! Thank you everyone for the great food and a wonderful bonding experience, and a special thanks to Chen 老师 and Sabrina for giving us direction with the cooking. Seriously, we had no idea how to do that. Also, thanks to the E-board as well who took the Friday night to go out and shop for all the ingredients (and getting distracted by all the wonderful asian food). All in all, it was a delicious night. Check our facebook group for some great pictures.
First of all, HACE wants to thank everyone who came to last Tuesday's discussion on race. There's been a lot of heated discussions on campus about this very topic, and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to continue to talk about the topic but in a safe space. You all helped us with this. We had such a variety of people from all backgrounds come, and we all learned from everyone that day. A special thanks to those who came and weren't members of HACE- you brought many new perspectives onto the table. This was such a great discussion, and I hope we can continue to have meetings like these. You all are the best. Here's a link to an article by Lana Gura about The Racism Problem at Hamilton College.
Thank you, everyone. You all were thoughtful, came with open minds, and were inspirational. Keep up the discussion.
You can come to expect lots of fun and games during our E-board meetings (Sunday at 10:30 in Commons): we have a whole new bunch of ideas for events for this semester (and the next after that). Tell us what you'd like, and where you'd like our club to go: do you like culture? Politics? Economics? Watching youtube videos? Let us know and that's where we'll go (hey, that rhymes)!
Also, let's put our hands together and congratulate our new secretary of HACE, Hoang Do!
Thanks for supporting HACE throughout the semester, and for taking on this dutiful task of scribery.
Thursday's event was a great success! With a ton of people and even more food, the "Are You the One" event was a night filled with full stomachs and laughter. The overall feedback was that the food was good (and more than plentiful) and that the dating show clips were hilarious. Thanks to everyone who made it and watched all the fun videos with us! And to those who couldn't ("couldn't", I say) make it, I know it's disappointing and everyone is sad, but don't worry! There will be more just like this one! So once again, let's give this event the thumbs up and a round of applause to everyone involved! A special thanks to those who came early to help set up and those who stayed late to clean up the tables (some of you guys sure are some messy eaters!).
Monday - Sept. 23, 2013 - Things are Coming Together
So after a few successful HACE meetings and more on the way, we have had new members steadily coming in (that is, maybe two or three). Welcome one, welcome all! I just want to put a big thanks out there to our e-board members, especially the co-presidents Wenlu and Sabrina! Thanks guys, we've had a great start to the semester. Check out our facebook group to keep up to date on all our events planned.
We've got big plans, beginning with our event this week (on Thursday Sept. 26 at 6:00 - 8:00 in the Sadove Conference Room) presenting "If You are the One", a controversial Chinese dating show!* Grab your friends, grab yourself, grab your stuffed animal and come eat Bamboo while we watch and discuss these shows. It's bound to be fun. If you're really interested or bored, check it out under our Events page.
This just in: the HACE website is up and running! The HACE group is filled with such positivity despite the drenching weather outside right now. We now have a facebook group and this lovely website. Please wonder about and check it out! (Note: we might still be under construction (-_-)' so please forgive us!) Tuesday's session was lots of fun, bonding over our great skills at Taboo (or lack thereof), and the joyful spread of chinese/communist products! Let's do this again!
By the way, in our next meeting we will be discussing Chineasy, and whether or not it really is... easy.
And let's have a warm welcome to all of our new and pre-existing members! (clap clap) ^_^
This is an auspicious day, with a fresh new list of members from today's Campus Life Open House at the Sadove Terrace. We're looking forward to meeting all of you (and of course giving away those awesome prizes). Next meeting is TUESDAY 9/10 at 4:30 in the Sadove Sunporch. Now all we have to wait for is to see who actually will show up...
