Everything’s faster in TX

By Ben Fields '15

While most of us were home sitting on the couch, junior swimmer Maggie Rosenbaum was in Shenandoah, Texas competing against the best in the nation. Swimming in her third consecutive Division III Swimming National Championships, Rosenbaum placed second, fourth and seventh in her three individual events.

Not only did Rosenbaum set four school records during her stellar NCAAs, she also received her fourth, fifth and sixth All-America awards. Rosenbaum’s stellar career at Hamilton has been marked by impressive NESCAC and NCAA championship swims, and this year was no exception.

“It was an amazing experience...All of the NESCAC schools banded together,” said Rosenbaum.

On her first two days, she set school records in the 100 yard butterfly and her signature event, the 100 yard backstroke, with lifetime best swims. In her butterfly event, Rosenbaum broke the school record with a 54.36 in the preliminary heats and was just four hundredths of a second slower in her fourth place swim that evening.

In her backstroke, she just missed a third straight championship while destroying her own record by almost a second going a 54.18. Rosenbaum was just shy of her school record in the 200 backstroke on the last day placing seventh to earn her sixth All-America Award in her three years at Hamilton.

Although she was the only swimmer competing for Hamilton, Rosenbaum’s 44 team points placed the Conts 18th of the 54 scoring teams.

“It was an excellent way to end the season, but I’m really looking forward to being able spend time with people and working outside of the pool” Rosenbaum concluded.

Rosenbaum and the rest of the team will look to have another excellent season when they reconvene in the pool in November.
