Taylor Science Center dedicated

By

A highlight of the bicentennial celebration was the dedication of the Taylor Science Center, in recognition of Virginia and Edward Taylor’s ’46 $16 million donation to the College. Edward Taylor only attended Hamilton through his sophomore year before exhausting the chemistry curriculum, a path he chose over biology by flipping a coin. Since graduating from Cornell University, Taylor has invented one of the most successful cancer treatment drugs and founded the charitable SunUp Foundation. President Joan Hinde Stuart praised Taylor’s creative approach to the sciences and hoped that he would inspire Hamilton students to do the same.

“It is not surprising that many science students indicate that this building is the reason why they chose to attend Hamilton,” said Stone Professor of Psychology and Director of the Neuroscience Program Douglas Weldon.
The dedication of the building included speeches by Weldon, Stuart and Board of Trustees Chair A.G. Lafley ’69. A plaque commemorating the Taylors was unveiled and a ceremonial ribbon was cut.
