Student Assembly Update

By Catherine Hee '14

January 26, 2012

New Members of Student Assembly
Monday’s meeting welcomed six members after a number of students left to study abroad.  Four members from the class of 2013 were added as representatives: Luxsika Junboonta, Sam Hutchinson, Maggie Lavoie and Chip Sinton.  Ellen Esterhay is a new representative for the class of 2014 and Michael Kendall ’14 is the class treasurer.  These students will serve on Student Assembly until the end of the term.

Reformation of the Constitution
After realizing that some bylaws of the Constitution are outdated and no longer in practice, Student Assembly has decided to take the outdated components to a vote.  The Constitutional Committee was reinstated, made up of SA members and with Parliamentarian Scott Hancox ’14 as the chair.  A student suggested changing the President’s term to run from the fall to spring semester instead of from the spring to fall. This decision, along with others, will be put to vote in the upcoming semester.

Alcohol Discussion
As the new semester begins, the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Committee will return with Chip Sinton ’13 as chair.  This committee will represent the students’ interests in the campus discussion on alcohol and is especially important as the Town Hall Meeting brainstorm possible changes to Hamilton’s policy.
An email sent by Nancy Thompson on Jan. 23 listed the incident reports from last weekend to “provide some context for our discussion” which will take place this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Kirner-Johnson’s Bradford Auditorium.
