Former New York Yankees captain and shortstop Derek Jeter spoke at Hamilton College Wednesday night as this year’s speaker in the College’s Sacerdote Great Names Series. Students stage die-in protest on College Hill Road

Last Thursday, a 200-person group compromised of students, faculty members and staff gathered at the crosswalk on Martin’s Way to protest the recent non-indictments of the officers who killed Michael Brown and Eric Garner and to stand in solidary with victims of police brutality. Campus community turns out for conversation on Ferguson grand jury verdict

On Monday night, over 200 students and faculty shared their frustration, fear and outrage about the decision by the Ferguson, MO grand jury not to indict Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot 18-year-old Michael Brown on August 9. Town-Gown gives $65,000 in grants to local organizations

This past week, the Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund distributed $65,000 in grants to eight organizations in Kirkland and Clinton. Hamilton College President and Town-Gown Committee Chair Joan Hinde Stewart stated, “The eight organizations invited to submit proposals presented us with more than $180,000 in need.” In its 14-year history, the Town-Gown Fund has distributed more than $570,000 in grants to organizations in the area. Hamilton struggles in energy use competition

On and off the Hill, environmental sustainability is a pressing issue. Hamilton participates in a competition every year with other area colleges to monitor energy use. However, there are many initiatives being done at both the governmental and local levels in order to slow this damage and preserve the world. One of these initiatives is the Campus Conservation Nationals (CCN),  “the largest electricity and water reduction competition for colleges and universities in the world,” according to the CCN website. Hamilton College has participated in CCN’s competition for the past four years. More ...

New signs by crosswalk hope to promote caution

When walking across campus, students tend to show more caution to avoid walking across a map than when walking across a busy town road. Following what Director of Campus Safety Fran Manfredo calls “several close calls” at the crosswalk on College Hill Road, Hamilton will be placing two signs, one on either side of the street, encouraging pedestrians to “STOP” and “make eye contact with driver before crossing.” More ...
