Six students awarded public speaking prizes

“When I speak about anything, I try to make it something I am passionate about,” Catie Cooper ’15 said of her award-winning speech given at this year’s Public Speaking Competition. After a preliminary round, the final round of the Public Speaking Competition took place on March 8 in the Chapel. Seventeen students advanced to the final round during which a compilation of faculty, staff and alumni judges awarded six prizes to students with the most persuasive, articulate and compelling speeches. Garbage bags, Valentine’s Day mementos and newspaper strips replaced haute couture on the runway for Hamilton’s second annual “Trashion Show” on March 2. Faculty votes to remove communication major

At Tuesday’s faculty meeting, a long-contested area of study received a final decision. The faculty unanimously voted to close the communication major based on what Professor of History and Chair of the Committee on Academic Policy (CAP) Thomas Wilson called a “lack of curricular merit.” More ...

Mary Evans to speak on Class & Charter Day

The spirit of Hamilton, the talent of its students and the dedication of its faculty are on full display at the College’s annual Class and Charter Day celebrations to be held this year on Monday, May 12. Students to volunteer in Nicaragua over spring break

During the second week of spring break, a group of Hamilton students will travel to San Ramón, Nicaragua to work at Finca Esperanza Verde, or Green Hope Farm, an organic shade-grown coffee farm. This trip is Hamilton’s first international Alternative Spring Break program. It was organized through Volunteers for Peace (VFP), an outside organization, which focused on intercultural education, organizes both domestic and international service trips. The overall objective of the trip is to help the community of San Ramon and learn about its culture and environment. More ...

Lecture addresses social impact of malaria

On Thursday, Feb. 27, Dr. Paul Linser, professor of anatomy and cell biology at University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, gave a Levitt Lecture entitled, “Malaria: Its Historic Impact on Mankind and the Battle to Stop the Devastation.” The focus of the talk was to address not only the biological side of malaria, but also the social implications of current treatment and prevention techniques.
