Men’s lacrosse looks like the team to watch this season as they kick off the spring undefeated. They have won all of their first five games, including three away games. The team finished strong last season with a 10-4 record. It has not reached the Liberty League tournament since 2006, but by the way that they blew out of the starting gates this spring shows that the men are determined to snag a spot in the tournament.

The men did well away last year, winning seven games, but right now they are looking unstoppable. Junior attack Henry Burchenal has led the way to victory for the Continentals, scoring the majority of the team’s goals. His nine goals and two assists in away victories against Greensboro College and Drew earned him the award for Co-Offensive Performer of the Week. Burchenal also scored another three goals to lead the men’s team to a 14-5 win against rival Utica College. Every goal has to start somewhere; Captain Jon Leanos ’13 leads the team in assists.

Leanos contributed a career-high five assists against Utica, including all three of Burchenal’s goals. However, the team’s perfect record is by no means a two-man effort. Luke Sadoff ’14, Chris Whelan ’13 and several other players also had goals and assists against Utica. In their most recent game against Potsdam on Mar. 26, Leanos led the Continentals to yet another 11-3 victory, scoring three goals and three assists. Leanos was also awarded Co-Offensive Player of the week for his game-changing goals and assists so far this season.

Leanos and Burchenal are on fire and show no signs of cooling off. As long as they keep scoring and the entire team stays focused on beating last season’s record, the chances are high for the Contintentals to snag not only a spot in the League Tournament, but maybe a championship.
