Elementary School Students Visit Community Garden
July 1, 2010 — A group of about 15 elementary school students from the West Canada Valley (WCV) Garden Club visited the Community Garden on June 15. The WCV Garden Club was established in 1991 and is open to students in grades three through six.
Fresh Veggies Cropping up at Community Farm Garden
June 17, 2010 — As the sun shines and Hamilton’s campus heats up during the summer months, most summer researchers retreat to the air conditioning of Kirner-Johnson and the Science Center. Three hardworking students, however, elect to spend their summers outdoors, working eight hours per day on Hamilton’s community farm garden. The three summer farm managers, Andrew Pape ’11, Sarah Gamble ’13 and Christine Roback ’12, are all dedicated workers with a taste and a passion for locally-grown produce.
Fruits of Summer to Be Consumed on Labor Day
September 4, 2009 — Highlighting Hamilton’s commitment to eating locally, Bon Appetit, the College’s food service provider, will prepare a variety of dishes that feature vegetables grown on campus and by local organic farmers on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. The organizations involved include Bon Appetit, the Hamilton College Community Farm and the Food For Thought seminar and its 1812 Garden.
Spring Work Begins on Community Garden
April 21, 2008 — Work on Hamilton's community farm garden got underway on April 18, as volunteers turned out to remove rocks from the ground. The Hamilton Farm Garden, located east of the Ferguson House parking lot, hopes to offer a place for all community members to garden. Hamilton Community Breaks Ground at New Farm Garden
November 20, 2007 — Cold weather and snow flurries didn't keep gardening enthusiasts away as the inaugural fall planting of the Community Farm Garden took place on Nov. 17. Approximately 25 gardeners, including students, faculty and President Joan Hinde Stewart, braved temperatures in the 30s and a fresh snow to plant a great variety of flower bulbs and a number of beds of garlic.
Community Farm Garden Gets Started on Campus
October 29, 2007 — Hamilton students spend a large part of their year on Hamilton's campus, but some feel they have no real connection to the land on which the College sits. Students live in rented rooms, eat prepared food from dining halls and learn largely through discussions and activities inside classrooms and labs. In an attempt to bring members of the Hamilton community closer to the land they occupy, students and faculty have teamed up to create a community farm garden on campus.
